In 1273 the town of Niesen was first mentioned in a document as “Nihusen” (= Neuhausen). The noble family "von Nyhusen" lived in the Niesener castle and then the palace, which is still a central part of the town next to the church of St. Maximilian. 524 residents have settled here on the banks of the Nethe.
