The abbey of S. Antonio di Ranverso, built starting from the twelfth century, became a stopping point along the "Francigena" pilgrimage route that reached as far as Rome. Around the abbey there were in fact buildings, still existing, dedicated to hosting pilgrims, stables, even a hospital that treated those afflicted by the "fire of St. Anthony", a very annoying skin irritation of viral origin.
