Castle Fallersleben - in the style of the Renaissance
When Clara received Schloss Fallersleben in 1550, it was not finished yet. Like Schloss Gifhorn it had been destroyed during the Hildesheim Stift feud (1519 - 1523). With astonishing energy, the widow continued the palace, begun by Duke Franz. She created a three-winged Renaissance castle made of sturdy oak framework. The U-shaped buildings enclosed a courtyard. To protect the inhabitants there was a 11.5 meter wide and five meters deep moat, ramparts and a city wall. Over the moat two bridges led into the plant. Of the castle wings, only the west wing with the staircase tower is preserved. A bridge and a ditch section are reconstructed.
