For a long time the Serrahn, the Bergedorf port, seemed to have been forgotten.
Only "Die Kogge" gave the waters something like harbor flair.
After the pub and restaurant ship increasingly rotted, caught fire and finally sank - it was scrapped.

The port of Bergedorf is located at the end of the lock ditch, which was inaugurated in 1445. A crane erected by Nagel & Kaemp in 1901 is reminiscent of freight shipping.
Since 1445, the Schleusengraben has led to the Dove-Elbe: barges from Vierlanden and Hamburg used it to go to the center of Bergedorf. This canal is fed by the Bille. Between the river and the harbor basin on the Serrahn, mills used its water power, most recently a grain mill built in 1839/68 at Alte Holstenstraße 86. Industry has been located at the Schleusengraben since 1882. The halls of the Bergedorf chair tube factory built by Rudolf Sieverts (Stuhlrohrstraße) in 1890 bear witness to this.

There were also unpaved extinguishing sites along the lock ditch before the bulwark on the ship's water was expanded into a harbor and got a crane in 1886. There was also a bulwark on the Serrahn: the “new” port was built here between 1900 and 1902. In 1901, the city set up a stationary electric slewing crane there. In 1926 a mobile crane was added. Construction materials and fuel in particular were handled, but also general cargo. The construction of Bergedorfer Strasse from 1954 to 1956 marked the end of freight shipping. Because there is not enough space under the road bridge for large boats. In the 1960s, hardly any freighters docked in Bergedorf, now excursion boats go as far as here.

A breath of fresh air in Bergedorf Harbor

The Bergedorf Harbor Association has been actively involved in the redesign of the Serrahn Harbor since 2016. This is how new favorite places are created around Bergedorf Harbor, which invite you to linger by the water.

Our goal: to increase the attractiveness of Bergedorf Harbor by creating new "favorite places."

In 2015, the Bergedorf District Office worked with Bergedorf residents to develop a vision of the future of Bergedorf Harbor in order to improve it. This gave rise to the Bergedorf Harbor Association, which continues to pursue the ideas of the time and works on their implementation.

We coordinate projects in the harbor area, carry out regular harbor cleanings with the DLRG, ensure that there is attractive planting around the harbor and create a good atmosphere with our "Rock at Bergedorf Harbor" concerts.

Join in and bring more fresh air to Bergedorf Harbor.
