In October 2004, by a resolution of the Gdańsk City Council, the park was named after Ronald Reagan, President of the United States in the years 1981–1989, an honorary citizen of the City of Gdańsk. In July 2012, a monument was unveiled in the park, presenting the figures of Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II. It is a commemoration of their meeting in Miami in 1987. The monument is located between two ponds on the axis of ul. Jagiellonian.
