    Hiking

Indian Creek Trail has a length of 3.8 miles (one-way) and is famous for its two main waterfalls, 'Hidden Falls' and 'Window Falls'. But besides those two highlights, there is a lot more to enjoy along the hike, following Indian Creek from the Visitor Center of Hanging Rock State Park to Dan River. You will see multiple small cascades and waterfalls, walk over wooden broadwalks and cross Indian Creek.

    340m

Embark on the Indian Creek and Riverbluffs Trail for a moderate hike spanning 8.4 miles (13.5 km) with an elevation gain of 1123 feet (342 metres). This route typically takes around 4 hours and 19 minutes to complete, guiding you through diverse landscapes of dense forests and open green fields. You will discover two beautiful waterfalls, Hidden Falls and Window Falls, with the unique chance to walk behind Hidden Falls, before enjoying incredible views of the Dan River.

To begin your adventure, access the trail via the Dan River access parking area. This spot is often less crowded than the main entrance to Hanging Rock State Park, offering a more relaxed start to your hike. You will not need any specific permits or be charged fees to enjoy this trail.

Beyond the waterfalls, the Riverbluffs Trail section provides scenic vistas of the Dan River, where you can hear the sounds of rapids and observe exposed rocky cliffs. Keep an eye out for local wildlife as you hike, and look for an old, abandoned cabin along the way, adding a touch of history to your outdoor experience.
