Abseits der Tour liegt die Nr 16 des Sagenwegs - von dort erreicht mal dann auch bequem auf einer wenig befahrenen Straße die nächste Station ohne einen zweiten Umweg laufen zu müssen

The Heidenberg Forest was created around 800 as part of the newly founded Schwabach royal court. Administered since 1364 by the Nuremberg burgraves and later margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach from their Kammerstein Castle, the “Hegenperg”, first mentioned in 1404, was expanded into a deer reserve for noble hunts. In 1792 the Prussian government had the Heidenberg deer completely shot. As a plague on the land, protected by margrave decrees, they repeatedly devastated the fields of farmers in the surrounding villages. What remains are the 22 legends that were recorded in 1922 by the elementary school teacher, Hans Hörndler, from Ottersdorf. A second strand of legend deals with the two strategically important imperial roads that crossed the Heidenberg from the 9th to the end of the 16th century. These are the Burgunderstrasse (also “Ulmer-”, “Wein-” or “Heerstrasse”) via Kammerstein and Italystrasse (“Weißenburger Steig”) via Kuhedorf. The destination was the imperial city of Nuremberg.
