Security gate Waltrop Datteln-Hamm-KanalWhere the canal is particularly vulnerable, safety gates are built on a canal. This applies, for example, in front of and behind canal bridges and high causeways, where the water level is higher than the surrounding terrain. The shipping waters are thus divided into separable sections. In case of damage in the dam line with the risk of leakage of the channel support the security gate is lowered. The safety gate then closes the entire channel cross section and protects the otherworldly holding section against leakage. Safety gates also serve as working closures for draining the canal bridges during inspection and repair.

Imposing building if you look at it up close and pay attention to the details.
If necessary, the sewer can be blocked. In the event of a leak, this prevents the channel from running empty.

Imagine if there was a hole in the canal and this huge bathtub would leak!
This "bulkhead" is used so that it does not run completely empty!
Have fun and have a good trip
Greetings René
