Built in 1790, Happisburgh Lighthouse is the oldest working light in East Anglia and the only independtly-run lighthouse in the UK. The iconic red and white tower is 85 feet (26 meters) high, housing its light which can be seen up to 18 miles (29 km) away. The lighthouse, which has suffered from storms throughout its history, was saved by local residents who operate and maintain the lighthouse through voluntary contributions.
