Here, an association looks after the preservation and use of this beautiful half-timbered building.
April 22, 2018
In the middle of the vast landscape of the Oderbruch, where the land stretches out flat and open beneath the sky, it stands: the half-timbered church of Altbarnim. A small gem, almost too modest for a grand gesture – and yet so present that you involuntarily slow down. Its black and white half-timbering, like something from an old picture book, its roof covered in red, its tower simple but upright – not a baroque spectacle, but quiet elegance. It seems like a house that knows how to tell stories, but doesn't pressure anyone to listen. If you take your time, you might still hear them – the ticking of the clock in the silence, the creaking of the door in the wind, the echo of songs long since faded away. The village street in front of it is quiet, the wind plays in the leaves of the linden trees, somewhere a chicken clucks. No traffic, no noise, only the quiet promise that time passes a little differently here. Those who arrive here by bike have usually already cycled through fields and open spaces – and find a strange haven of peace in this church. Not as a grand goal, but as a friendly interjection.Altbarnim – it sounds like a forgotten name in an old calendar. And yet, something stands here that remains. And those who continue their journey may take a piece of this simplicity with them: the courage to slow down, the charm of the inconspicuous, and the feeling that beauty often awaits where no one expects it.
