The former Coppi home was built in 1866 as a military hospital. It was part of the barracks complex and was designed to look similar to the actual barracks (today District House I). It was also popularly known as the "small barracks". Between 1919 and 1924, the building was handed over to the city of Bernburg. On November 4, 1925, the children's home opened, initially as an infant home. During the Second World War, bombed-out orphans found a new home in the building. It was renamed the Coppi home in 1949.

The name goes back to Hans Coppi, who was a member of the Red Orchestra resistance group during the Second World War. The home was handed over to the Kids association in 1995. 32 children were housed there at the time. It continued to operate as a children's home until the end of the 1990s. In 2007, it was swapped with the city of Bernburg. The district received the former Coppi home. In return, the city of Bernburg received the property at Schloßgartenstraße 16

Ruins of the Hilde-Coppi-Heim, a former children's home, in Schleusingen. With three vacant houses on a huge hillside property, it's an impressive lost place.
