The chosen location for the erratic boulder garden in the area of the Jungfernstieges marks the transition between the Geest and the marshland in the valley of the Wedeler Au. The origin of the boulders provides information about the geological development of the Wedel natural area. In the area of the erratic boulder garden, the Kirchstieg, which connects Wedel with Holm along the edge of the Geest, meets the Wedeler Au. At this point the oxen were loaded onto "Fährprähme" and shipped across the Elbe.
