The Town Hall of Gennep was built around 1617 in the Lower Rhine Renaissance style of Willem Van Bommel, which is also recognizable in the town halls of Venlo and 's Heerenberg. Over the years, the Town Hall has functioned as a school, prison and courthouse.

The council chamber is still in use for council meetings, weddings and other official receptions. The handover of keys during carnival also takes place here.

The wheelchair-accessible Gennep Tourist Information Point is currently located on the ground floor.

The tower contains a carillon with 25 bells. The Town Hall of Gennep is a national monument.

PS: if you are looking for tourist information and the events calendar of Gennep at a time when everything is closed, you will certainly find what you are looking for on the walls of the town hall.

When you come to Gennep you can't avoid it: everywhere there is something that reminds you of storks. It starts at the roundabout when you drive there where there are statues of storks. Where does this stork craze come from and what does the town hall have to do with it?

Well, the town hall has a lot to do with it since a pair of storks started breeding there - in a blessed way. Just read "20 years of storks in Gennep" from 2020 at vogelbescherming.nl/beleefdelente/blog/lezen/20-jaar-ooievaars-in-gennep

Or would you rather watch the webcam that is focused on the stork's nest at the town hall live? Then go to visitgennep.nl/ooievaar - and don't be scared by the carillon with 25 bells if you look for a long time. In recent years, the little ones have died more and more.

In addition to the storks of the city hall, there are others. If you go for a walk in the nature of Gennep, there is a good chance that you will see storks. There were several in the nature reserve of De Diepen. Wonderful to see them fly up, fly majestically around each other and land again, after which they clatter their beaks. If you look closely, you can see them in a few photos, unfortunately without zoom.

The town hall of Gennep is located in the middle of the center on the Markt. It was built between 1612 and 1620 under the direction of Willem van Bommel from Emmerik. Years ago it was used as a town hall, now it is used as a wedding venue.
