The Calanchi di Montenero di Bisaccia are erosive forms typical of clayey soils, created as a result of the action of rainwater, which give a characteristic appearance to the area. The clayey and therefore impermeable constitution of the soil is one of the characterizing factors of the area, together with a steep slope, southern exposure, scarce vegetation, a climate with intense and short rainfall and massive solar radiation in the summer. Also given the peculiarities of the flora and fauna present, the area has been identified by the Ministry of the Environment as a Site of Community Interest (SIC) to be enhanced, protected and developed. In fact, on the badlands a flora is established mainly consisting of herbaceous plants, with a dominance of grasses, which form the priority habitat. Pseudo-steppe paths of grasses and annuals of the Thero-Brachypodietea. The environment is sub-steppe, characterized by compact marbles, sometimes leafy and marbled clays of your types: varicolored and blue. Over the years, the particular morphology of the area has not escaped the extreme sports enthusiasts who, in the 70s and 80s, interested many motocross enthusiasts, while today it is easy to meet climbers intent on training and lovers of nature walks.
