The Grecia Forest Reserve was established on January 25, 1974, with an extension of 2611 hectares, in order to conserve the area where the water sources that supply the population of Grecia and other cantons of the region originate and reduce the impact about them. In 1979, the State acquired a 40-hectare farm within the Forest Reserve, which was called Bosque del Niño, because 8 hectares were reforested with pine, cypress, and eucalyptus by children from neighboring communities, on 9 September 1979, a date that coincided with the celebration of the International Year of the Child.
