Around 650 there is said to have been a chapel dedicated to Saint Genoveva in Zepperen. At about this time, Saint Trudo is said to have met Bishop Remaclus in Zepperen, as is described in the Vita Sancti Trudonis from about 775, which mentions such a chapel. Trudo is said to have prayed here, whereupon Remaclus sent him to Metz to study for the priesthood. The tower was built in the 12th century and is in Romanesque style. The current church, built in Demergotic, was built between 1430 and 1509, and restored from 1860-1906. Already in 1935 the church was protected as a monument. In 1983, the area surrounding the church was also protected as a village view. During the feudal period, the patronage rights of this parish rested with the Chapter of Saint Servatius in Maastricht.
