You will find many hidden treasures in picturesque Hasselt. This Hanseatic city has a historic city center with atmospheric alleys and canals and over 70 monuments. Hasselt is one of the oldest pilgrimage sites in the Netherlands and part of the famous international pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The symbol of the pilgrims, the scallop shell, made of Bentheim sandstone, can be found in the wall of the old town hall.
