The Malatesta Fortress (late 16th century) which dominates the town of Montiano is now only partially open to visitors.
Heart-shaped, it overlooks and fills the small village.
From the outside, its high walls hide the elegance of the interior and give the building a corrupt and powerful air. At the time of its greatest splendor it had elegant crenellated walls, large rooms, precious frescoes, a church and a large garden.

Residence of the Malatesta family by the will of Carlo Felice, the most substantial part of its construction dates back to the sixteenth century, but the first walls almost certainly date back to the ninth century.
Heavily compromised during the last war, it was partially demolished to avoid further dangerous collapses.
Later some parts were rebuilt and the municipal kindergarten was housed there.
