St. Ottmar and St. Ottilie Chapel Ruins on Keilberg

The watchtower on the old foundations of the chapel and the surrounding square offer an opportunity to take a break after the climb.

The chapel "St. Ottmar and Ottilie" on the Keilberg goes on a "plague vow", which raged in 1436 in nearby Hammertal. The historic chapel from 1448 was destroyed in the First Margrave war by the Nuremberg troops back in 1449. In the new chapel in 1756 a service was held again. In 1858, the outer pulpit was attached to it, as the annually held in July Kirchweih enjoys great popularity. The area is delimited by a wall with ditch, the history of which - as far as can be seen - is still unknown. The wall contains a drywall. Was it a Celtic settlement or a refuge, as they were built in the area at the time of the Hungarian invasions before 955? Unfortunately, the chapel is locked. Nice place but not a good view.
