As early as 1937, the only 10.73 hectare and a bit hidden Doost was the first nature reserve in the Upper Palatinate under protection. Incidentally, the "stone block sea" was uncovered by the Girnitz through erosion processes and not - as in mountain streams - transported by the power of the flowing waters from higher areas down to the valley.
