La Torretta is a military structure of medieval origin, placed to guard the valley crossed by the Amaseno river, near the Monastery of Santa Maria delle Canne. It was born for a dual function: a watchtower and a defense tower. Currently it stands isolated on a large limestone bank, spared from the destruction of the adjacent quarry. The turret, with a quadrangular section, has three floors high, but has no roof. The wall is very neat. The door to access the tower has a peculiarity: compared to the floor it opens at a height of about 3 meters and could only be accessed via a wooden staircase, which, in case of danger, was withdrawn inside the fortification.
