Wikipedia:The Conrod Power Station is a decommissioned hydroelectric power station on the Hohenwarte Reservoir near Ziegenrück in the Thuringian Slate Mountains, Thuringia. It is named after the Conrodberg, around which the Saale River flows in a 5.5 km long loop and on whose western side the power station is located. As the oldest original hydroelectric power station on the Saale River, the plant is a technical monument. The Conrod Power Station was built between 1920 and 1922 after two years of planning by the Carl Zeiss company and commissioned between 1922 and 1923. The tunnel was broken through on May 8, 1921. It was permanently decommissioned on February 1, 1960.--The path towards the power station begins quite comfortably, but quickly changes character, becoming a very narrow trail with steep slopes on the sides. The final third of the trail is only recommended for very experienced and sure-footed hikers. Do not attempt it in wet conditions, as the slate surface becomes very slippery and there is a risk of slipping.Unfortunately, the trail ends at a rock wall, making it impossible to reach the power plant even for the most daring!
