This was once the site of the ancient city of Ialysos. Today, the monastery of Filerimos and the ruins of the Temple of Athena Polias can be found here.

In the thirties of the twentieth century, the Italians rebuilt a monastery and partially a castle on the top of Félerimos on original foundations, which can be visited for between 6 and 5 pm for € 6.

Our path led us up to the Filerimos hill, about 10 kilometers from Rhodes Town. This site was already significant in ancient times: the acropolis of the city of Ialyssos, with a temple dedicated to Athena Poliados, was located here. Later, an early Christian basilica was built on the same site, before the Knights of St. John established the monastery in the Middle Ages. Under Italian rule in the 20th century, parts of the complex were restored, and paths and the impressive Stations of the Cross were created.
The monastery is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and a famous Marian icon, the "Our Lady of Filerimos," played a significant role here for a long time – today, only a copy remains on site.
The entrance fee is €10, which seems quite high for the few accessible areas. The visit is limited to the outdoor area. The quiet location, the cypress avenues, and the magnificent views over the island, which make the climb to the hill worthwhile, are worth mentioning. Overall, however, the impression remains that the price and the content offered are not entirely commensurate.
