The town of Badia Prataglia developed starting from the 13th century in the surroundings of an abbey founded around the year one thousand by Cassinesi monks. The remains of the abbey, suppressed by Pope Boniface IX in 1391, have been incorporated into the parish church. Today, as in the past, the economy of Badia Prataglia is linked to the surrounding woods: the cultivation of wood and its processing are among the most active economic sectors in the area.
