The Acueducto das Águas Livres (Free Water Aqueduct) is one of Lisbon's most iconic landmarks and an impressive example of 18th-century hydraulic engineering.
The main canal carried water from the Amadora area to Lisbon.
It connected to reservoirs such as the Reservatório da Mãe d’Água das Amoreiras (Amoreiras Water Reservoir), which is open to visitors today.
It distributed water to more than 30 public fountains throughout the city.
