Lio Piccolo is a locality in the Venetian Lagoon, with only 22 inhabitants, included in the municipality of Cavallino-Treporti. It is sometimes referred to as an island, although it is rather a collection of islets separated by narrow channels.
It is accessed from Treporti along a very scenic road, being completely surrounded by marshes. It is a predominantly agricultural locality: a handful of buildings stand around the small church dedicated to Santa Maria della Neve, while the surrounding landscape is characterized by the presence of vegetable gardens - where, among other things, the famous castraùre are grown (the first sprout of the violet artichoke) and the zizołe (jujubes) - with a few isolated huts, interspersed with canals, saltmarsh areas and fishing valleys.

Lio Piccolo has been inhabited for over a thousand years and is a hamlet of Cavallino-Treporti, in the middle of the impressive lagoon landscape. If you want to experience the long lagoon canals, the salt farms and the river banks with their characteristic flora and fauna, the tour is well worth a trip away from mass tourism.
