Viaduct remains:
Between Freisbach and Weingarten lies the most striking preserved remnant of the historic viaduct of the Neustadt–Speyer local railway, affectionately called the Pfefferminzbähnel. The viaduct is today a listed monument, easily accessible and a popular spot for cyclists, hikers, and railway history fans.
The meter-gauge local railway ran through the Gäu region from 1905–1956, connecting Neustadt, Duttweiler, Geinsheim, Gommersheim, Freisbach, Weingarten, Schwegenheim, Harthausen, Dudenhofen, and Speyer, among others. The viaduct was part of the route that transported agricultural products – especially peppermint – to the cities. Due to the large peppermint cultivation areas, it received the name „Pfefferminzbähnel“.
