The building, which has been converted into a museum signal box, is located directly at the Rendsburg train station. It was replaced by new technology in May 1983 and was therefore no longer necessary for rail operations.
The historically oriented railroader Siegfried Weichert had the idea for this small museum and saved the building from demolition. The museum signal box was created as a joint project by many railway workers.
Technology has been restored. Much has been improved and rebuilt.
So today it can be shown how the safety devices that were used around 1900
was developed, still works today.
The demonstration object is the block and lever system. A train journey can be displayed here. the signal in front of the signal box can be set to go. Many objects have been added in recent years. In this way, a complete barrier system could be set up outdoors.
Purpose of the interlockings:
Interlockings have the purpose of increasing operational safety and accelerating train and shunting services. This is achieved by making switches, track closures and signals operable from one location and dependent on one another in accordance with the closure panel.
With its exposed location, the signal box is directly accessible to the public. It can be reached from the footpath at ground level at the railway underpass at the station.
