The estate was expanded into a stately castle in 1725. In 1740, the Zwettl Abbey acquired the castle. In the castle chapel there is a ceiling painting depicting Mary and a side altar painting depicting St. Bernhard by Kremser Schmidt from 1769.[3] Until the 1990s, the castle housed a branch of the Austrian Museum of Folklore. Gobelsburg Castle is the seat of the Gobelsburg Castle winery.

The church is dedicated to the Nativity of Mary. In 1219, a parish emerged from a benefice. In the 15th century, it was a sovereign and at the same time a former place of pilgrimage. From 1746/1747, the parish church was incorporated into the Zwettl monastery. It was renovated from 1884 to 1888.
