This park owes its name to the memory of José Canalejas, president of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Spain between 1910 and 1912, benefactor of Alicante who fought for the expansion of the port, the modernization of the city and the development of its infrastructures. It runs parallel to the Marina Deportiva and gives continuity to the famous Esplanade of Spain. It was designed in 1886 by the architect González Altés and is guarded by stone sculptures of two lions that Manuel Pritz donated to Alicante and also has a monument dedicated to the popular Alicante writer Carlos Arniches.

Canalejas Park is the oldest park in Alicante. It borders the Explanada de España.
It was already constructed in 1886.
Several specimens of the monumental Ficus stand out in the park, with the highlight being one of the Ficus elastica species that is more than 100 years old.
Especially on hot days, the large trees offer an oasis of coolness and shade.
