Around 500 and 700 AD there were clearings in today's municipal area. In 1076, the wife Haziga of Count Palatine Otto II von Scheyern-Wittelsbach founded a hermit's hermitage with the Margarethenzell chapel here. In 1079, this was converted into a monastery, which, however, was already relocated to Fischbachau in 1085. Due to its proximity to Tyrol, Bayrischzell (Die Zell) was the scene of armed conflicts, including local mountain riflemen, with the Tyroleans both in the Spanish and Austrian Wars of Succession and in the Napoleonic Wars. In 1811/12, the cell (or Margarethenzell) became an independent parish curate. The place has been officially called Bayrischzell since 1832. On the 5th/6th On December 18, 1846, a Haberfeld drive took place there with over 100 beaters. Tourism gradually started around 1900. The coat of arms in its current form has been used since 1959 and, with the silver diamonds, is intended to remind of the close historical relationship with the Wittelsbach family.
