The Spreehafen itself is an eleven-acre, triangular harbor basin, which was completed in 1907. It served primarily as a catch basin for inland vessels, which found no place in the growing port operations. These vessels used for storage or administrative purposes are typical of the Spreehafen to this day. Built of wood with a flat sloping roof, painted yellow, blue and green, between cranes, wooden pontoons and shrubbery, they give the Spreehafen an alternative, dreamy coat of paint.
