The open pit Haverlahwiese is a nature reserve in the city of Salzgitter in Lower Saxony. The nature reserve with the license plate NSG BR 149 is about 206 hectares in size. It is for the most part congruent with the 116.7 hectare FFH area "Kammmolch-Biotop Tagebau Haverlahwiese". [1] The nature reserve is surrounded by a strip in the west of the nature reserve "forest belt between Salzgitter-Osterlinde and Salzgitter-Bad (Salzgitterscher ridge)". Only the area of the substation in the northeast, the former shaft Haverlahwiese I and the access here are not included in the scope of the landscape or nature conservation regulations. The approximately 85-acre, designated in 1999 landscape protection area "Haverlahwiese", which was located in the northwest of the current nature reserve, has risen in the nature reserve. The area has been under conservation since June 30, 2016. Responsible lower nature protection authority is the city Salzgitter.Source: Wikipedia
