The lookout tower in Selchow provides a view of the large lakes of the Sielmann nature landscape "Groß Schauener Seen" with its almost closed silting belt of reeds, shrub forests, bogs and wetland grasslands. From and to the observation tower one arrives on the nature trail "Erlebniswelt" of the fishery Köllnitz. The tower view allows fantastic bird watching of geese, sea and ospreys, Rallen, Great Crested Grebe ..... Worthwhile is not only the view on and over the water, but also on the surrounding fields. Here at the time of bird migration in the spring and autumn raged large bird flocks.

The almost 1,000 hectares of water surface belongs to the nature reserve Groß Schauener Seenkette consisting of Schaplowsee, Groß Schauener See, Groß Wochowsee, Selchower See, Schweriner See and Bugker See. The chain of lakes is a nationally important habitat for marsh and waterfowl. Impressive species such as the crane and the great bittern have their breeding grounds here.

A three-kilometer-long nature trail leads from the site of the Köllnitz fishery to the lookout tower.
