Rest of the former moated castle

The Stockturm is a free-standing brick tower and bears stylistic elements of the Renaissance. A stairwell is located on the east side of the tower. There are bay windows on the east, south and west sides. The uppermost of the four floors is half-timbered. The roof is a simple red tile pyramid roof.

It is not known what purpose the Stock Tower originally had. It is sometimes referred to as the battery tower. It was part of Nienburg Castle, which emerged from a moated castle. The castle was an independent fortification within the city fortifications of Nienburg. A Merian copper engraving from 1647 shows a smaller tower next to the main tower of the castle, which somewhat resembles today's Stockturm. It was probably a defensive or residential tower. The tower may have been higher in the past or had a different roof finish.
