The Hildesheim Cathedral - also called Mariendom - is one of the oldest bishop's churches in Germany. With its pure language of form, it is a special testimony to the pre-Romanesque period in Lower Saxony. Over the centuries, it has been repeatedly adapted to current tastes. During the Second World War it was badly damaged and then only restored in a simplified form.

Only when it was renovated in 2010, which was also supported by EU funds, was it largely able to regain its original shape.
