The Baroque castle was built by the old Croatian noble family Patačić in the middle of the 18th century when they left their medieval fortress Milengrad. Zajezda is located on a hill on the southern slopes of Ivanščica, just below Milengrad, in the eastern part of Hrvatsko zagorje, northeast of Zlatar, between Budinščina and Zajezda. It was rebuilt in the early 1980s and then damaged by an earthquake in 1984, and has since been emptied and demolished.
