On the evening of October 15, 1978, the Hütteneck-Alm, which was much visited due to the magnificent view of the Dachstein, but also because of its attractive surroundings of Bad Ischl and especially of Bad Goisern, was the scene of a considerable landslide. According to estimates by the forestry administration in Bad Goisern, 50,000 to 60,000 m of rock have erupted from the Zwerchwand, which lies directly above the hiking trail 247 of the Austrian Alpine Club. The fallen rock fragments forming a massive block pile spilled the way to about 100 m and lowered accordingly. A large number of tourists had passed the place on this beautiful autumn Sunday unsuspecting. If this tremendous natural event had not caused an accident, it is only due to the fortunate circumstance that the demolition did not take place until the evening, at about 6.15 pm.
