Between 1985 and 1987, the German Federal Navy built a total of five lighthouses along the Baltic Sea coast between the Kiel Fjord and the Fehmarn Sound.

All concrete towers have a red lantern with a flat roof. Only the tower shaft heights are different. A sixth fire was added in 1996 with the Neuland lighthouse, which was no longer used as a navigation mark.

Since 1885, a simple lantern burned on a fisherman's house. It was Heiligenhafen's first lighthouse, guiding ships into the harbor. In 1907, a 12-meter-high, round lighthouse was built, but it only lasted 30 years and was finally replaced by the current square tower in 1938. There are no tours available.
