Peru has the Nazca Lines and England has the Cerne Abbas Giant, a naked man on a hillside wielding a club. One of Dorset's most iconic features, this extraordinary hill carving is around 1,000 years old and has mystified historians and passers by ever since. The origins and exact age are unknown, with plenty of theories abounding from the giant representing a deity to him holding power as a fertility symbol. Either way, it's a spectacular site.

As the giant lies quite high on the rounded hill, it's not easy to see from the valley and the best viewpoint is this one. From here, you can hike up to the carving via a variety of footpaths.
