Witches' Linden

A legend tells of a musician who wanted to go from Dermbach to Tann on Walpurgis Night. But he lost his way near Andenhausen. Then a fine huntsman came up to him and offered to take him to the linden tree on the Klingser Hut; from there he could easily find his way around. The musician accepted gratefully. At the broad linden tree he was amazed to see a merry company. One handed the musician a magnificent clarinet and assured him that he could keep it if he played it for them to dance with. He would also get a handful of blank thalers.

The musician didn't need to be asked twice. It was fun for a few hours. With a bag full of money and the beautiful clarinet, the musician arrived home tired in the morning and went straight to sleep.

When he woke up, the first thing he looked for was the new clarinet. But this had turned into a dirty bone and the silver coins had become worthless shards. Then it was clear to him that he had played the witches for dancing.

Since then, this old linden tree has been called the "Hexenlinde".
