It is built on the upper part of the old town, on top of Canfali Hill. It was built between 1740 and 1780 after the discovery of the Virgen del Sufragio, patron saint of Benidorm. The tower was built between 1807 and 1812. The church was renovated in 1912 and restored in 1990. The main entrance to the church is in Plaza de Sant Jaume.
