On October 5, 2014, as part of the Feast of Our Lady of Hungary, Nicolas Brouwet, Bishop of the Diocese of Tarbes-Lourdes, France, blessed the newly built Cave of Lourdes at the National Shrine. In 1956, emigrant Hungarians brought a cross-pounded iron chain to Lourdes, which was seen as a symbol of the loss of our freedom at the French shrine. The iron chain later moved to Máriaremete, Hungary, from which the national shrine now received some links.
