The route was laid out here for a rail connection between Bretten (in Baden) via Knittlingen (in Württemberg) to Kürnbach in Baden. With the start of the First World War in 1913/14, work on the route came to a standstill. In Knittlingen there was a railway bridge (which was blown away in 1958) and a train station building that can still be found today. In 1923, work was completely stopped as a result of hyperinflation. At this point, the route from Bretten to Großvillars had been completed except for the superstructure, and the route had been partially laid out further up to Derdingen.
The route is still visible in the terrain and can be accessed by MTB.
