In September 1939, in a place located 9.1 km from the base of the peninsula, an attempt was made to break the Hel spit by blowing up a mine dam. This dam was part of the Polish defensive positions prepared in front of Kuźnica. The explosives were dismantled heads of the ship's torpedoes, containing a total of over 20 tons of explosives, buried deep in the sand. They were blown up on September 30, 1939.
