Jesús Nazareno Bridge / Roman Bridge Alcalá

The bridge "Jesús Nazareno" (or puente Romano = Roman bridge) is a bridge in Alcalá de Guadaíra (Sevilla, España) over the river Guadaíra. There is no exact historical data, but it is believed to be of Roman origin

The pedestrian bridge of Jesús Nazareno (or Roman bridge) crosses the Guadaíra river. Located in the urban area of Alcalá de Guadaíra (Seville, Spain) where the highways of Dos Hermanas and Utrera converge, forming part of the heritage and tourist strip of the city.
Tradition claims that the Jesús Nazareno bridge is of Roman origin. Already in 1846 Pascual Madoz in his Geographical Dictionary described it as Roman and the illustrious civil engineer Carlos Fernández Casado in his History of the Bridge in Spain of 1939 cataloged it as such for its "good looks, good construction and design". Unfortunately there are no historical references that allow us to guarantee that this is its origin. Although there is no exact dating of the origin of the bridge, it is reasonable to assume that its history is strongly linked to the fortification that has existed on the site of the castle since prehistoric times. The bridge and the castle enjoy a strategic and complementary position, the first located in a natural ford in the river and the second on a watchtower that dominates the ford and, at the same time, the countryside.
