The flood retention basin Gnadental, also called Sailach reservoir, was built between 1974 and 1976 as a flood protection device. Owner is the water association Fichtenberger Rot, the planning and construction management was at the Water Department Schwäbisch Hall. The total cost amounted to 2.92 million €, the reservoir was flooded in 1977.
The artificial lake lies calmly and idyllically in the valley of the beaver above gnadental and exhibits a depth of 1-5 m.
As this is a flood retention basin, heavy water rains can cause it to fluctuate temporarily, which can increase the water surface area up to 27 hectares in the event of full rain.
