The Himmelhof is a scenic meadow on the edge of the Lainzer Tiergarten in Vienna's 13th district.

Location: The Himmelhof is located in the Ober Sankt Veit district south of Hacking on the slope of the Hagenberg and housed a ski jump from 1949 to 1980. ORS operates a radio station at the Himmelhof, which broadcasts Austrian TV and radio programs in analogue and digital form. On a clear day, you can see not only the whole of Vienna from the Himmelhof, but also Bratislava and the Hainburg Gate.

Origin of the name: The name probably comes from a dairy and inn called Am Himmel in the 19th century.

Boarding school: A boarding school was built at Himmelhof in 1962, which was completely renovated in the mid-1990s. Curiously, the Bundesrealgymnasium Diefenbachgasse, located in the 15th district, conducts the classes at the boarding school. While Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach gathered a community of artists at the Himmelhof around 1900, the name goes back to the Sechshauser municipal councilor Heinrich Diefenbach and has nothing to do with the artist.

For everyone who (like me) knows the Vienna view from the north (between Hermannskogel and Leopolsberg) well, this view from the west is quite unusual. The meadow can be easily integrated as a picnic station in a hike along the Lainzer Tiergarten meadow.
