Perhaps "the most beautiful" table mountain in Saxon Switzerland. If the weather is right, the view is magnificent. And it is easy to climb and easily accessible. The parking lot at the foot costs (as of 2018) €3.00 for a day ticket. However, parking times are limited to 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Definitely a destination "for a quick, spontaneous hike".
And there is a mountain hut. Open on weekends in winter. The current opening times are also posted at the two entrances.

The Lilienstein is one of the most striking mountains in Saxon Switzerland in Saxony. The Lilienstein is the only table mountain on the right bank of the Elbe and is the symbol of the Saxon Switzerland National Park.
In the 19th century, the Lilienstein was opened to tourists and the first small mountain inn opened in 1873. Today, there is an inn on the mountain that is open from April to October. The Lilienstein can now be climbed via two ascents. The oldest parts and steps of the southern ascent date back to 1708, while the northern ascent was only built in 1900 by the mountain innkeeper Karl Friedrich Bergmann. There is a material cable car on the Lilienstein for supply and logistics purposes for the mountain inn.
To mark the 800th anniversary of the Saxon ruling house of the Wettins, a 16 m high obelisk was erected as a memorial column by the Mountain Association for Saxon Switzerland in 1889. Its shape is similar to that of a postal mile post from the Electorate of Saxony.
