The "Stirapurhc" was first called around 980.
The mighty keep of the original fortress is still preserved today. In the 11th century the castle achieved its importance as the residence of the Otakare. In 1727 the entire complex was destroyed in a catastrophic city fire in Steyr and rebuilt by Count Lamberg as a representative baroque palace. The Lamberg aristocratic library and sandstone figures are located in the inner courtyard.
